Baking Sweet Resolutions for the New Year

I don’t know about you, but there’s something about the start of a new year that makes me want to organize my kitchen, dust off my recipe books, and start dreaming about all the delicious things I could bake. So, instead of vague resolutions like “eat healthier” (because let’s be honest, I’m not giving up sugar, and I’m already eating pretty healthy), I’ve decided to set some baking goals that I’m genuinely excited about—and maybe you will be too!
I’ll admit, I’ve made plenty of resolutions in the past that didn’t stick, and I have come to realize that my resolutions do stick, if they come in the middle of a month, or on a random Thursday. But I do feel pretty fresh every January 1st. So, whether you’re a seasoned baker or just getting started, I hope this post inspires you to add a little sweetness to your plans for the year.
Here I was, right before the end of 2024, being all excited for setting my goals. I wanted them to be realistic and something I would have fun doing. If you feel stressed before you even begin, that's a recipe for failure.
My motto for 2025 is : Don't be afraid to try new things!
And this can be something big, or something small.
I already tried new menu items at restaurants I frequent, I tried a new car wash for my ride, and bought ingredients from the grocery store that I have no idea what they are, but I intend to use! And the biggest one of all, I got a puppy! Stepping outside my comfort zone level: MAX!
So, here goes nothing:
1. Experiment with New Ingredients
This one’s at the top of my list because I love stepping outside my comfort zone - when it comes to cooking and baking. Whether it’s trying unusual spices, exploring international flavors, or finally figuring out how to bake with rosewater, this goal is all about discovery. Think of it as baking with a sense of adventure—no passport required.
2. Bake Two New Recipes a Month
I know some people aim for baking a new treat every week, but let’s be realistic. Life gets busy, and I want to actually enjoy the process, not feel like it’s another chore. Two new recipes a month feels just right—enough to keep things interesting without overwhelming my schedule. Plus, it gives me time to perfect each one before moving on to the next.
3. Bake to Share
This might just be my favorite resolution. Baking is fun, but baking to share? Even better. Whether it’s surprising a friend with cookies, dropping off a cake just because, or hosting a dessert night, this year I want to spread the sweetness. Baking has always been about connection for me, and I’d love to make that more intentional. And talking about eating healthy, it’s better for me, to share my new bakes rather than eat them 😊

Ready to Bake Along?
If any of these resolutions resonate with you, let’s do this together! I’ll be documenting my progress (and mishaps, because let’s be real) here on the blog, over on YouTube, TikTok and Instagram. So stay tuned, grab your whisks, and let’s make this the sweetest year yet!
To help you keep track, I made a simple PDF Recipe tracker that you can download HERE and jot down your new recipe, star rating and notes. Those can include to double the nut quantity, bake a little longer for your oven, or simply not to bake again! Because not all recipes are keepers.
Feel free to mention your own resolutions in the comments, I'd love to read all about them.
